Getting married at Christmas!

When you get engaged and start thinking about the right month to celebrate the wedding, December is not exactly the first month that comes to mind. December is the month of parties, big family lunches and holidays: getting married at Christmas could however be a surprisingly magical choice.

Saying yes during the low season brings benefits, such as more locations and dates available, as well as less expense and less stress. Furthermore, there are many original ideas for photos, decorations and looks: discover the pros and cons for a Christmas wedding…

Getting married at Christmas: why not!
December is a joyful month, characterized by parties, rest, fun with loved ones and many good things to eat. December newlyweds have an easy time of it, as wedding guests are generally already in a good mood and in the mood to celebrate. However, for a grand ceremony there are many variables to consider…

Make sure you like the idea of a winter wedding
Firstly, you have to be very sure about getting married at Christmas. The couple must share the choice, to avoid misunderstandings arising during the planning. If one of you dreams of the classic traditional ceremony under the sun, in an Italian garden, a Christmas wedding is definitely not for you. If, however, you like the idea of a winter wedding, then a day between Christmas and New Year could be an excellent option (obviously avoid strictly holidays, which are more complicated for management).

Pro: it is low season for weddings
Since the period between Christmas and New Year is not traditionally associated with weddings, you might even be able to save big on a dream location. If they do not organize Christmas parties or other corporate events, villas and castles may offer more advantageous prices, especially during the week and in January (taking advantage of the winter holidays).

Pro: Your family is already reunited
Some families live far away or don’t have much time to be close together, but often still manage to find time during the end-of-year holidays. Getting married at Christmas offers a great advantage precisely because it takes advantage of the fact that everyone is already gathered and close.

Pro: the decorations will be suggestive and magical
To get married at Christmas you can choose a small church in the countryside or a sumptuous shared hall. Recreate an atmosphere of great warmth and in perfect winter style with small fir trees covered in lights, garlands, candles and lanterns, a bit like a mountain chalet.

Pros: the look
Getting married at Christmas offers great freedom when it comes to the wedding or groom’s dress. For example, there are magnificent models that cannot be worn in the warmer seasons because they are too heavy. The bride can wear a sumptuous dress with long lace sleeves, ideal for recalling festive magic. If you still don’t want to give up a light dress, you can opt for an elegant hooded cape, perfect for a Christmas themed wedding. And, to accompany the bride, the bridesmaids can dress in red or green.

Cons: Guests may not be available
Despite the period of rest, some guests may already have plans for the holidays. If you dream of a big wedding with friends, work colleagues and acquaintances, choose a date before Christmas, perhaps a weekend or two before.

Cons: cold and bad weather
Getting married at Christmas almost always means choosing an indoor location, perhaps with a nice fireplace. However, it may rain or be very cold outside. If you are getting married in a very cold place, lay out red carpets to prevent anyone from slipping on snow or ice. Additionally, provide throws for guests, along with hot drinks.
